Pink Slime is in WHAT at your local grocery store?!

You have probably being hearing alot about "pink slime" made popular by Chef Jamie Oliver. Jamie Oliver did a special on educating parents about pink slime and what it is. This youtube video is awesome in how it explains what FDA approves of our food and what we are eating and what our children are eating. (Article on Pink Slime) Pink Slime's popularity is rising in the media very quickly now - thanks to Jamie Oliver. We are finding out where pink slime is at. Pink Slime is in the public schools lunchs! Your child is consuming pink slime when they eat a burger at school. Pink Slime was in McDonald's burgers.  (Recently Mcdonalds has stopped the use of pink slime in their burgers) However, pink slime is in EVERY processed chicken nugget out there. Processed chicken is not healthy for your body no matter how they try to prepare it. Now we are finding out that pink slime is also in our beef at our local grocery stores. At Coupons, Deals, and More they have compiled a Nation Wide list of grocery stores that Do or Do not use Pink Slime in their meat. And after reading the list you might reconsider where you buy your meat.  List

My Family and I have made small changes in our eating habits the last few years; and meat is a BIG deal in our family. This is why I find it important to spend more money on good, high quality meat in my grocery budget. We buy meat from whole food type stores that offer hormone free and antibiotic free meats and often are organic.(There are ways to save on meat too if you learn the tricks) We have also considered from buying a whole cow from a local grower. Supporting your local farmers is very important. We want to support local, high quality growers so that they can keep producing high quality for our families and continue to support our community. A whole cow will last one family a long time; so cut the cost by going in with a few friends.  Our family also eats alot of deer meat. Deer meat is considered a wild meat; therefore it is about as natural as you can get!

If you are interested in buying from a local farmer there are websites out there to help you find them in your area. Here is one of my favorite sites - Website

After seeing what your family is consuming, there is no wonder America is fighting obesity in high numbers. The more we educate ourself and demand better quality (by not buying or condoning the bad) we can force them to producing better food. Since Jamie Oliver made Pink Slime national headlines, changes have already been made. McDonald's has already removed it from their beef; and now the U.S of Department of Agriculure are now providing schools with the choice to say NO to ground beef with pink slime in it. The more you speak your voice- the more you demand your schools to choose NO.  Nobody likes bad publicity. The more the word is out and the more we say it is not acceptable, the more food changes we will see. Article Here

I guess the old saying is true, "You get what you pay for." A butcher from a local grocery store told me to never buy meat in packages that light cannot reach or you can not see the meat. (She was talking about the pre-package of ground beef you get in a tube at the grocery store.) Be careful buying from "cheap" stores that offer "cheap meats". Sometimes their is a reason they are cheaper. Personal Testimony: I cooked Walmart ground beef and Publix ground beef side by side. The Walmart ground beef was more slimey and greasy. Publix ground beef had a healthier feel to it and it cooked better, leaving less grease. The meat from Publix tasted better. Publix meat does NOT conatin pink slime. (Walmart decline to say anything - so I do not know if they do or do not contain it.) If your meat is stamped USDA Organic = it will never have fillers in it!  Dr. Oz stated: "The more people buy organic and demand organic foods - it will drive the price down." Make small changes for your family. I say, start with your meats!

NOTE: To save money on high quality meat buy them at respectable stores when they clearance the the price down or run them on sale and freeze it. I buy meat in large quantities when it is on sale. My favorite stores to buy meat are from Whole Foods; Super Target (Lauras Beef); and Fresh Market.
